Carol Black, MD is Professor of Rheumatology and Director of
the Centre for Rheumatology at the Royal Free & University
College Medical School in London, UK. She is President of the
Royal College of Physicians of London and a member of several
professional societies and committees. Prof. Black has led the
scleroderma trials for the European League Against Rheumatism
(EULAR) Committee for Clinical Studies and is Chairwoman and
Founder of the European Scleroderma Club. At the Royal Free
Hospital, Prof. Black's Unit is the major centre for scleroderma
in Europe and one of the largest in the world with an extensive
programme of clinical and basic research. In recognition of
her work in scleroderma she was recently awarded a CBE (Commander
of the British Empire). |

Christopher Denton MD

Christopher Denton, MD, is currently Senior Lecturer at London’s
University College and Rheumatologist Consultant at the Centre
OF Rheumatology, Royal Free Hospital, London, UK. He received
his PhD in Medicine and Cell Biology at the University of London
in 1997, and his speciality credentials in Rheumatology in 1998.
His appointments have included Senior Registrar in Rheumatology
at the Royal Free Hospital in London and Postdoctoral Research
Fellow in molecular Genetics at the University of Texas M. D
.Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, USA from 1997 - 1999. Dr
Denton’s research has focused on the role of endothelin-1 in
connective tissue disease pathogenesis, specifically with regard
to scleroderma fibroblasts. |

Nazzareno Galiè MD

Bologna, Italy
Dr. Nazzareno Galiè heads the Pulmonary Hypertension Unit at
the Institute of Cardiology of the University of Bologna in
Bologna, Italy. He is also Professor of Cardiovascular Diseases
at the Postgraduate Medical School of Pulmonary Diseases, and
at the Postgraduate Medical School of Cardiology at the University
of Bologna. He has authored more than 250 scientific publications
on heart failure, heart transplantation and pulmonary hypertension.
He is currently serving as Chairman of the Working Group on
Pulmonary Circulation and Right Ventricular Function and as
member of the Scientific Council of the European Society of
Cardiology. He is also a Fellow of the Italian Society of Cardiology
and of the European Society of Cardiology. |

Marius M. Hoeper MD

Marius M. Hoeper, MD, was educated at the Medizinische Hochschule
in Hannover, where he specialized in respiratory medicine. He
received a two-year grant at the University of Colorado, Denver,
USA in 1992 from Germany’s National Research Foundation. Since
2001, Prof. Hoeper holds the position of Senior Physician in
the Department of Pneumology at the Medizinische Hochschule
in Hanover. |

Lewis J. Rubin MD

Lewis J. Rubin, MD is currently Director, Pulmonary Vascular
Center and Professor of Medicine at the University of California,
San Diego School of Medicine in La Jolla, California, USA. Dr.
Rubin has been involved in basic and clinical investigation
and direct patient care with pulmonary vascular diseases for
over twenty years. He is the author of over 130 peer-reviewed
scientific papers, including reviews of pulmonary vascular disease
in the New England Journal of Medicine and the Lancet, and over
50 book chapters including sections on pulmonary hypertension
in many of the leading textbooks of medicine, cardiology, critical
care medicine and respiratory medicine. In addition to his academic
appointments, Dr. Rubin is a member of several societies including
the American College of Physicians, has an honorary fellowship
at the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom and
serves on the Cardiopulmonary Council of the American Heart
Association. His research interests include pulmonary circulation,
pulmonary physiology, and cardiopulmonary inter-relationships.

Gérald Simonneau, MD is Chief, Department of Pneumology, Hôpital
Antoine Béclère, Clamart, France. In addition, Professor Simonneau
is Vice President and next elected President of the Working
Group on Pulmonary Circulation of the European Society of Cardiology.
He has widely published in the fields of pulmonary hypertension,
pulmonary vascular diseases, and pneumology. Professor Simonneau
has also been the Director of the Unité Propre de Recherche
de l’Enseignement Supérieur on pulmonary vascular diseases since
1998. |
